January 2025 Fishing Report

We lost 11 days due to the lakes being frozen and on several other days conditions were thoroughly unpleasant to fish in, not surprising, it was January after all! Around this, the fishery performed well, with noticeably better catches after we made changes to both rules and ticket structure, encouraging more stock turnover.

Success has come to various techniques and flies, the variable weather being the biggest factor day to day. Browns, blues and rainbows from 2lbs upwards have figured in catch reports, topped by an 11lb brownie.

Generally speaking when it’s rough, sink tips and full sink lines with lures and nymphs have worked better. On calm, clear days, once the day warms, buzzer activity has fish moving, making small nymphs on a floating line a joy to fish. Just this last week Steve Yeomans has reported two fish on dries, while fishing in combination with a really small buzzer. Please remember it 2 flies maximum now!
