June 2022 Fishing Report

Fishing on the lakes continues to provide sport throughout the summer, one of the benefits of having a good depth of water on our spring fed lakes. Regular and experienced anglers are continuing to catch during all but the worst conditions (i.e. at this time of year hot, humid, sunny days). We had fabulous dry fly fishing to beetle and hopper patterns during June and currently top scoring flies are buzzers, sparse nymph and wet fly patterns, plus damsel nymphs. The water is heaving with pin fry, buzzers and damsels currently. Top tips for summer are morning fishing is often best (though not always). Get your fly right in front of feeding fish, so if you see a fish move cast ahead of it and reap the benefits of fishing a team of flies in Summer as shown in this article from Steve Yeomans.
