Mid Spring 2022 Fishing Update!

Spring is a hugely busy time on the estate, besides everyone wanting to enjoy the fly fishing here, nature kicks into high gear, everything starts growing and that needs maintenance. Our Caravan Park opened on March 1st and it’s fabulous to welcome back many familiar faces to enjoy Loynton. Our lakeside cafe The Tickled Trout is a highly popular feature with our angling and non angling guests, so to avoid delays, we recommend booking a table in advance.

How’s the fishing you ask? Overall, very good! As with anything outdoors, things vary day to day, however anglers are reporting good catches of trout of 2-7lbs with a few larger fish. Blues to 11lbs, rainbows to 12lbs and browns to 15lbs have all been reported. Top flies have been lures in black, black and green, white and green, yellow and red. Nymph patterns have been dominated by buzzers and bloodworm, plus crunchers, dial bach and hares ear. Recently dry fly fishing has improved and as I write we are in the middle of hawthorn season and the trout have been quick to take advantage of them when the wind is up! Our Mayfly hatch tends to occur during the second half of May here, so look out for them in the afternoons, while the nymph is a useful pattern to try AM throughout the month.
